The Cafe 1 – “Loving is Easy”

The Cafe is a collection of mellow tracked playlists. It’s inspired for my love of the cafe. Traveling abroad, I found cafe’s, lounges, and bars all playing a variety of tracks and usually playlists from YouTube.

“Loving is Easy” is the title of this first Cafe playlist and incidentally follows a story of love, love lost, and love found again. The playlist starts out with a track by Rex Orange County of the same title, “Loving is Easy,” followed by The Sunshine a track by Manchester Orchestra. The upbeat, melodic, groovy jam Speak to Me by Trey Anastasio.

Wildfire by Mandolin Orange will bring tears to anyone who’s experienced wildfires, especially here in California — this was one of my favorite tracks of 2018.

Goodbyes by Jordan Rakei follows and is a loungy, mellow track. Next up, Way With Words by Bahamas balances that out and picks you back up. A cool little known band called Maus Haus, out of San Francisco, with a track called Hey Jean.

The last three tracks are Beautiful Strangers by Kevin Morby, New Compassion by HAERTS (another one of my 2018 favs), and When the Night is Over by Lord Huron.

Enjoy!

Van Rock 2: “Every 1’s a Winner, Baby”

Hell yeah, man. This playlist rocks. Lots of indie gold. Some new tracks like Pressure from Flasher, a post-punk band out of Washington D.C. Also on the playlist is Kurt Vile’s One Trick Ponies, of his 2018 release, Bottle It In (story of my life) ~ great track. Blue from Far Caspian continues the playlist into melodic contemplation, before switching up with a dreamy islandish vibe, that borders Endless-Summer surf guitar vibes with a far east sound with, with Khruangbin’s track called Khuda Bhi Aasman.

The second half of the playlist returns to indie rock roots with Ten Fe’s Single No Return, then heads into a grittier track with On The Move by The Record Company. Ferus Gallery by Allah-Las briefly returns us to that surf rock far-east guitar sounds, before we finish off with a few tracks that remind me of the good old days of classic rock ~ reborn through Greta Van Fleet and The Nude Party (Don’t miss this track! Great video too.). What a ride!

VR1: “Have a Little Shock Treatment”

This playlist was inspired from a recent snowboarding trip. Originally titled, “Snowboarding Zone Out” this playlists blends the melodic styles of some some some unique rock bands from classic punk to modern indie rock. These tunes would have been great for the slopes, but my headphones broke on the mountain, so it became driving music.

  • Day Wave – Home (3:56)
  • DIIV – Under the Sun (3:47)
  • The English Beat – Click Click (1:28)
  • Iggy Pop – Lust For Life (5:14)
  • Ramones – Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment (1:45)
  • Ramones – Go Lil Camero Go (2:03)
  • ZZ Top – Doubleback (3:56)
  • Kalu & The Electric Joint – Get It Right (3:30)
